Disney auditions get me so excited and nervous every time, its a mixture of emotions and the constant thought of 'could today finally be my day??'.
For those of you who have the same dream as mine, to one day get the opportunity to perform as an official disney princess, then you know how tough getting that job is. The audition process is a lengthy and extremely harsh thing, and just getting past the first round is a huuuuuuugh achievement.
Disneyland Paris Auditions : Sydney Australia
For every audition I always like to be the first or at least one of the first 5 people there, so getting there almost 2 hours early is nothing different.
At this audition I got to Brent street theatre at the Entertainment quarter 2 hours early, found the audition studio, grabbed a coffee and sat scrolling through my disney board on pinterest wondering if that could be me after today.
1 hour before the official starting time of the auditions started they ushered the first 50 or so of us into the outdoor waiting area, and before long 50 turned into a couple hundred.
At this audition they got us to fill out a form which had our availabilities, our age weight hight and gender, and what contract we are looking for ( you had the option to say you wanted to work there forever if possible XD ), I noticed that they had different forms to the ones at previous hong kong and tokyo disney auditions.
The Actual audition process started when they called the first 20 up to get our measurements taken (I was measured at 168cm). With hong kong and tokyo auditions this has never happened first before and its always been strait into the first round which was always a dance sequence, so it was interesting that for the paris audition they took the height of EVERYONE first before even briefing us or having a first round. THEN !!!! we walked into the room where there was a desk set up and two ladies were sitting at it, you handed them your card, they asked you to smile, and I noticed some people they asked them to turn to the side and smile. Im not sure if this is a good indication ( that they want to have a closer look because they see potential ) or a bad sign that they're worried a certain feature (eg. nose) is too prominent and need to double check.
After the brief they split us up into groups of 16, and the first round was revealed to be the ANIMATION ROUND. I cant tell you how happy I was to finally have an acting based audition, at every single other audition its always been dancing first and ive never been able to make it through, but I knew this was my time to make it. The animation sequence was to parade like music and we were asked to ask as characters for a 4 or 8 count to the music. The characters went in order of Cowgirl, pirate, one of the 7 dwarves (of your choosing), villain and finally a princess. There was no speaking so facial expressions and bodily movements were a must, and the biggest tip I would say is to go big or go home. I looked like an absolute idiot, but it payed off because I made it through the animation round!!!
I was so incredibly happy I couldnt tell you, they made the cut as soon as we finished the seqauence and those who were lucky to stay went back outside to wait for everyone else to go through the first round.
By the time the first round had been done, they had cut a group of almost 400 girls and guys down to 40 !
This is why I always want to be in the first group, because with the very very first group to go, they havent seen what anyone else is like yet and have nothing to compare people with, in my group 4 out of 8 got through, but as more and more groups went through we heard that a maximum of only 2,1 and even sometimes 0 from a group were getting in, so for your best chance, try and get in the first group.
I was so happy to make it through the animation round that I kept telling myself no matter what happens from here it was such a good step forward to make it past the round it didnt matter.
As the smaller group was called back in we then learnt of the second round. The dance round. I knew I wasnt going to make it through but I wanted to try my hardest anyway. It felt like the longest bloody dance of my life, mixing ballet, ballroom, jazz and more ballet, into a long ass dance sequence, and when everyone is crammed into a room trying to see the teacher to learn the specific steps in such a short time, it really weeds out those like me who arnt dance trained to those who are and have been training for years.
Sadly I didnt make it through, but I was still proud to make it through the animation, which is what I know I am ment for to be a meet and greet character not a parade and show performing character.
One day, when I go to America where they have acting ONLY auditions, I know that'll be my time.
The only negative thing I would say is, one of the most annoying things I heard was this chick genuinly saying how she's not really happy with the pay rate ( how its on the low side ) and that she's only doing the job ( provided she actually gets it ) so it can be on her resume.
Like.
This job is the absolute dream of some girls ( AKA MEEEE ) and if I could, I would pay THEM to let me be a performer. Its just frustrating thinking some girls out there are living my dream job and not appreciating it properly for what it is, when SOMEOOOOONE could be.
sigh....one day
Until then,
Stay beautiful xx
